As you are no doubt aware, the platypus genome was recently sequenced. I read that it is indeed a patchwork of reptilian, avian, and mammalian genes!

B&C saw platypus swimming in a zoo in Australia. They were extremely graceful. Hard to believe that they shut their eyes underwater and navigate by electrical sensors in the beak!
